Completely different helmet. In the original game the visor isn't divided near the center and it covers his nose area. We can thanks the Archie comics for that misinterpretation. -But it is a minor detail. However, I think it looks more villainous with the game's visor.
Presumably, he picks a different helmet when he leaves Wily. It's possible it's his original helmet and he decides to wear it when he first meets Megaman.
